The Snowman had potential to be a good whodunit but failed to live up to that potential. A serial killer is mutilating his victims and taunts a talented but alcoholic police detective to solve the crimes. The movie was as bleak as the icy setting in Norway.
Clocking in at nearly two hours the film was overly long. There were multiple sub plots that made the film drag and revealed the denouement too early to keep the suspense alive. Even with the film’s length, several plot lines that could have aided the movie were not fully developed, and the characters were so one-dimensional I found it hard to like any of them.
The one saving grace was the score by Marco Beltrami, which helped propel the movie. It was appropriate to the mood, giving it tension and texture that the script lacked. ... See MoreSee Less
