Never doubt that film music can transcend. I recently attended a performance of Oregon Symphony playing John Williams’ score to Spielberg’s "Jurassic Park", with the movie screened simultaneously. The packed audience was obviously having a great time, lots of young people among them (many weren’t even born when the movie came out). In the dramatic final moments of the film my attention was drawn to a delightful occurrence. A young boy was intensely focused on the conductor enthusiastically copying his gestures. After the show I needed to meet this child who was clearly having a joyous time with the music. Imagine my pleasure when I asked to shake River’s hand only to be given a huge hug by this challenged young man. His mother Aurora feels that music, especially movie music, is able to reach him, and for a few precious minutes, it did. The photo is worth a thousand words.
